Mike McWilliams, a renowned industry expert with over 40 years of experience specialising in power planning, renewable energy, hybrid systems, energy storage and commercial aspects of generation, has been appointed to the Zero Terrain Global Advisory Board.
His energy advisory business (McWilliams Energy) is a partner in the International Forum on Pumped Storage. Mike McWilliams is currently a Senior Advisor, Energy at CEBR, one of London’s foremost economic consultancies. He is Non-executive Board member at Agua Imara, Norway and an Advisor and Board member at Klinchenberg, a subsidiary of Norfund and BII, that is the partner with Scatec for hydropower investments in Africa. Mike is a Senior Advisor on hydropower and pumped storage to the World Bank, where he advises on strategy, planning and project development.
“We are really excited to have someone with such extensive industry and sectoral experience as Mike McWilliams join the Zero Terrain Global Advisory Board”, said Peep Siitam, CEO and founder of Zero Terrain.
“The creation of the Zero Terrain Global Advisory Board is an important milestone for the ambitious growth that we have planned. The global push for net-zero targets highlights the critical need for clean, renewable baseload energy and the extensive expansion of solutions like pumped hydro storage. This century-old technology is crucial for integrating and balancing variable renewables by storing and delivering energy as needed,” continued Siitam.
Speaking about the appointment, Mike McWilliams said, “This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Zero Terrain Global team to provide innovative pumped-hydro storage (PHS) technology for large-scale energy storage without topographic restrictions. Pumped-hydro storage is a tried and tested technology and is a cornerstone of energy systems globally. However, the transition to renewable energy leads to a more volatile power system, creating a need for flexible assets, such as storage. Zero Terrain provides this green energy baseload.”
